Use this workflow to prepare a redirect map, check its mechanical issues and hand the reviewed plan to the person responsible for implementation.
1. Collect the source URLs
Gather the old URLs that need a redirect. Keep one source per row and record the intended destination in a second column. Use the redirect mapping template as a starting point.
2. Choose relevant destinations
Match each source to the closest useful page. Review topic and user intent; do not send every old URL to the homepage. Record why the destination is appropriate.
3. Check the CSV map
Open the Redirect Map Checker, upload your source/destination CSV, and review the visible summary. Unlock the complete report to inspect all flagged rows, conflicts, chains and loops.
4. Review and correct the plan
Correct mechanical issues, then ask the site owner to review whether the content matches. Recheck the edited CSV. A clean check does not prove that every destination is the right choice.
5. Hand off and check implementation
Give the reviewed map to the person responsible for deployment. After redirects are implemented, use the Redirect Checker on important source URLs and compare the final destinations with your plan.
What this workflow does
These public tools review a plan and HTTP responses. They do not deploy redirects, change your website or replace a full crawl and controlled migration release.
