Check redirect chains, loops and mapping conflicts

A practical workflow for making a clear, reviewable decision.

Prepare

A chain sends a visitor through an intermediate URL. A loop sends them back to a URL already visited. A conflict assigns multiple destinations to one source.

Review

Flatten intended permanent moves to the final useful destination. A self redirect is an error, while an unchanged URL should simply remain unchanged.

Apply with an owner

Compare the plan with actual HTTP responses using the Redirect Checker. Plan review does not prove that live redirects have been installed.

Worked example

If /old/ points to /middle/ and /middle/ points to /final/, review whether /old/ can point directly to /final/. If /final/ points back to /old/, resolve the loop before implementation.
